Observing Women’s Equality Day 2022 With Google Cloud

  • 3 minute read

Editor’s note: August 26th is Women’s Equality Day, a day celebrated in the United States to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote on the basis of sex.

In 1920, one hundred and two years ago, women of the United States were first granted the right to vote. We acknowledge the ratification of the 19th Amendment as a major milestone in the fight for women’s rights and equality. However, it is important to remember that even though the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote, not all women had the ability or access to vote. The 1965 Voting Rights Act was another important achievement; however, the fight for equal rights is not over. As we observe and celebrate this milestone, we will be clear-eyed about the work that still has to be done. And we acknowledge the fight goes on, specifically for those not of the majority. And even though this is a day we celebrate in the U.S. we want to take this time to honor all women globally.
