Ericsson, Qualcomm And Thales To Take 5G Into Space

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and French aerospace company Thales (Euronext Paris: HO) are planning to take 5G out of this world and across a network of Earth-orbiting satellites. After having each conducted detailed research, which included multiple studies and simulations, the parties plan to enter smartphone-use-case-focused testing and validation of 5G non-terrestrial networks (5G NTN). The result could effectively mean that a future 5G smartphone could use 5G connectivity anywhere on Earth and provide complete global coverage for wideband data services, including places normally only covered by legacy satellite phone systems with limited data connectivity capabilities. The benefits…

Ericsson, Telstra And Qualcomm Set Uplink Speed Record Of Close To 1Gbps Using 5G Dual Connectivity And Carrier Aggregation

Ericsson, Telstra, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have achieved the highest uplink peak rate ever recorded on a commercial network during a live demo in Queensland, Australia. Together, they reached an uplink data speed of close to 1Gbps, paving the way for more seamless experiences in use cases such as live video streaming and social media content sharing. Using Ericsson’s New Radio-Dual Connectivity (NR-DC) and carrier aggregation software features together with a smartphone form-factor test device powered by Snapdragon® X65 5G Modem-RF System on Telstra’s network, this new uplink speed record marks another significant milestone for the ecosystem collaboration between the three companies.…

UScellular, Qualcomm, Ericsson, And Inseego Address Digital Divide with Multi-Gigabit Extended-Range 5G Milestone Over mmWave

What’s New:  UScellular, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Ericsson and Inseego announced the companies have successfully achieved a 5G extended-range milestone over millimeter Wave (mmWave) on a commercial network. This milestone was accomplished at a distance of 7 km, the farthest 5G mmWave Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) connection in the United States, with sustained average downlink speeds of ~1 Gbps, sustained average uplink speeds of ~55 Mbps and instantaneous peak downlink speeds recorded at greater than 2 Gbps[i]. Additionally, at a distance of 1.75 km with no line of sight, the companies achieved sustained average downlink speeds of ~730 Mbps and sustained…

U.S. Cellular, Qualcomm And Ericsson Achieve Extended-Range 5G Data Call Over mmWave

U.S. Cellular, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Ericsson announced that the companies have successfully achieved the first extended range 5G NR millimeter Wave (mmWave) data call in the U.S. on a commercial network. The extended-range data call milestone was completed in Janesville, Wisconsin over a more than 5 km distance with speeds >100 Mbps. This achievement redefines the perception of 5G mmWave spectrum as an urban- or high-density-only deployment technology and offers new opportunities to use current infrastructure for broader 5G coverage. This milestone demonstrates that mmWave can help close the “connectivity divide” and expand broadband services throughout rural, suburban, and urban…

Qualcomm And Ericsson Complete World-First Interoperability Milestone To Drive 5G Carrier Aggregation

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Ericsson announced the completion of key interoperability tests to enable global operators and OEMs in implementing 5G carrier aggregation – a critical feature in 5G specifications to lift performance, capacity, and coverage in the rapidly expanding 5G networks. The companies successfully completed the world’s first interoperability tests for 5G standalone (SA) carrier aggregation across both FDD/TDD1 and TDD/TDD bands. 5G carrier aggregation allows operators to use multiple sub-6 GHz spectrum channels simultaneously to transfer data between base stations and a 5G mobile device. Implementation of 5G carrier aggregation delivers enhanced network capacity along with improved 5G speeds…

How Ericsson Is Leveraging Cloud Native To Enable 5G Transformation

For more than a century, Ericsson has been a top manufacturer of telecom equipment, with about 40% of the world’s mobile traffic carried through Ericsson’s networks. The company has also played an instrumental role in creating a global standard for mobile communications around the world starting with 1G. Now, Ericsson is at the forefront of the push into 5G. “For the past several years, many new technologies such as software defined networks (SDN), AI/ML, orchestration, virtualization, and microservices architecture/cloud native entered the telecom industry propelling the 5G transformation. These new technologies will enable new business models and use cases across all industries,”…

Ericsson And Telstra Extend Reach On An LTE Network Up To 200km

In a world first, Ericsson and Telstra announce the first LTE 200km cell range capability on a commercial mobile broadband network. The first extended reach call was completed using a Telstra site at Mount Dowe in the Australian state of New South Wales and demonstrates that this new capability can deliver up to double the 4G cell range. This new capability extends Telstra’s 4G cell range beyond the current 3GPP standards limit of 100km up to 200km. This breakthrough has been achieved via a software upgrade to Telstra’s world leading mobile network that is based on the Ericsson Radio System.…
